The Charities Bureau is a national leader in the oversight of not-for-profit organizations and represents the interests of charitable beneficiaries and New York State in a wide range of matters.
Responsibilities include representing the interests of charitable beneficiaries in Surrogate’s Court and Supreme Court proceedings involving trusts and estates with charitable interests; representing the interests of the State in proceedings involving estates administered by the Public Administrator and other estates with unknown beneficiaries, including kinship hearings and withdrawal proceedings in Surrogate’s Court and Supreme Court; reviewing fiduciary accountings; and, assisting with legislative and public education initiatives.
We are seeking candidates with two (2) to three (3) years of experience in trusts & estates law and litigation, preferably including contested Surrogate’s Court proceedings. The ideal candidate will combine excellent advocacy, negotiation and writing skills with a strong interest in public service.

The General Counsel serves at the discretion of the Borough President and is responsible to conduct and/or supervise all legal affairs of the office.
Duties of the General Counsel include but are not limited to providing counsel to and preparing memos, opinions, letters and testimony for the Borough President on both legal and policy matters; providing counsel to Bronx Borough President Office staff on work-related legal matters; and conducting the general legal affairs of the Bronx Borough President’s Office.
The General Counsel participates in formulation and implementation of agency policy, advises the Borough President concerning proposed legislative changes, and develops legal arguments supporting legislative proposals sponsored by the agency. The General Counsel also ensures compliance with existing federal, state and city laws, regulations and guidelines that impact agency operations.
Additionally, the General Counsel represents the Borough President on various boards of trustees, including the New York City Employees’ Retirement System and the City of New York Franchise and Concession Review Committee. The General Counsel also represents the Borough President at various government and civic functions.

Hon. Faviola A. Soto is looking for a reliable, hardworking, and enthusiastic summer intern. The intern will work closely with the Judge and her staff to do the Court's work. The internship is full-time and location is partly in Chambers at the Court of Claims in the Financial District and partly at the Bronx Supreme Court. Judge Soto handles bench trials in the Court of Claims and presides over jury trials in Bronx Supreme Court. The internship will run from June 1st to August 1st 2018.
